My point is merely that cultural ignorance is a real phenomenon prevalent among migrants and it can’t be all blamed on racism of the receiving society. Both sides need to make effort to integrate, otherwise you get ghettos on one hand and feedback loop of racism on the other.

I’m not denying that racism and xenophobia do exist in the US but I can’t discuss its extent due to my lack of knowledge of your country.

Ahem, Poles? I'm Polish. We look just like Americans or British. But customary approach to even such silly things as queueing to enter a bus are quite different in Poland and UK.

And even that is much more complex - I'm Polish expat to United Kingdom. Continental European law system is quite different from common law in UK (and US). I wish I knew the differences on arrival, as it would make my life easier.

"Rules" aren't equivalent to laws. Organised crime follows rules, Russia follows rules, religious zealots follow rules - but these are very different rules from universal law in Western definition.

And there's nothing humiliating or depriving in it - it's simply about telling everyone arriving: "here's our rules, here's how we understand them, here's instruments at your disposal".

Otherwise the people teaching them rules will be human traffickers and org. crime.

Then, anyone arriving into US - assuming they do share your concept of law - need to actually know about US Constitution and the local laws. In short, they need to be fast forwarded through the decades of your own socialisation in the US.

100% agreed about the societal norms you defined! But you assume that everyone in the world shares the US concept of rule of law, which is obviously not true. In many countries tribal or religious customs have precedence about any written laws, which are simply irrelevant.

Assimilation is possible but it doesn’t magically happen on its own. You acquired the social acumen by decades of growing up in that society. People moving in at adult age need to be explicitly told what the rules are, offered courses, exams etc.
