This brings to mind another of Einstein's observations: "The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits". This is perhaps the most crucial insight of all. True expertise, genuine wisdom, is defined by an acute awareness of its own boundaries. The expert knows what they do not know; the genius understands the vastness of their own ignorance. Stupidity, particularly the "conscientious stupidity" we have examined, suffers from no such constraints. It is boundless, unburdened by doubt, and armored against correction. It is a closed loop, a self-sustaining ecosystem of error.

Conventional wisdom would have one believe that it is insane to resist this, the mightiest of empires, but what history really shows is that today's empire is tomorrow's ashes; that nothing lasts forever, and that to not resist is to acquiesce in your own oppression.
