the monsters being innocent/unaware/childlike is still a thing that happens in both shape of water and frankenstein, but there is no 'background' regarding treatment of men behind it, which i guess there would be the other way around. Idk man I think it could be an interesting topic to explore

i think it threads a fine line because the lord knows if there was a mainstream movie where a normal human guy fell in love with a monster girl people would complain he "saved her" or that she may be "childlike" which puts her in a position of being shaped by the man into whatever he wants but

i understand what people wanna say but its really hard to take seriously the point that "women long for the beauty thats underneath the monster" when the monster is a 7ft tall good looking muscular man.I think the point would come across a bit better if people had this reaction about an actual freak
