I think designers care about novel mechanics. Many publishers will tell you they care about novel mechanics, but they really care about a game that's relatable with a twist ‐ not necessarily mechanical. And gamers care very little about novelty. Vast generalizations of course

Yeah - definitely frustrating when what's hot isn't what you like to design. Publishers are playing it fairly safe and following trends even more than normal, which is understandable in the economic environment today. But trends change and are cyclical...

And for the other times when I'm playing with friends, there are still a ton of highly interactive games coming out every year - it's not like they've disappeared. Just looking at the BGG hotness today - Arcs, Battle for Hoth, Nemesis Retaliation, Tekken, Dune Imperium, Tag Team, Root...

I think companies found there was a HUGE market that boardgames weren't addressing 10 years ago. 75% of games I play are after work with my wife. A chill solitaire puzzle (Wingspan, Harmonies, etc) is what we're looking for - little interaction and 0 confrontation is a feature, not a flaw.

They're buying low, selling high.

Congrats on the game by the way!

We're going to have a Rage Against the Machine biopic in another 15 years about how they raged for all of us, aren't we?

Prototypes are the truly the a-holes of the board game world

In our defense - we're the only generation that will freely admit that we suck

Might take him literally losing his business to Trump vs. an "anti-business" Democrat. Of course, if he could somehow get a meeting with Trump and a tariff exemption specifically for The Op (not the industry in general), no doubt he would think Trump is the greatest human who ever lived.

When you want to convince a Democrat of something, talk about how it will affect everyone - the big picture. When you want to convince a Republican of something, talk about how it will affect them personally.

Congrats - hope you enjoy it!

I'm 14 hours in.

6/10 ‐ first 2 hours
3/10 ‐ hours 3 -11
9/10 ‐ hours 11+

It's wild how bad a job it does at showing you what's great about it for so long.

Good people behind the company - sad to hear this

My doctor mentioning cholesterol medication was all it took for me to launch into a Rocky training montage last year. Also - congrats!

Same - also love Outer Wilds, Animal Well, etc... and I don't understand the hype at all for Blue Prints. It's like the amount of creativity in an average escape room is being spread out over 10+ hours

If you really like collecting 50 variants of the same game, everything being themed around the same handful of giant IP's, and hate innovation and creative ideas - you're going to love the boardgame industry over the next 5 years.

So disappointed in myself 😅. Apparently, I'm mostly Jamey, and 17% you

I'm going to assume your mom is well known in some other obscure hobby community, and the 9 minutes is how long it took to post in all the socials
