Altmetric is a sign of a powerful paper in the eye of the public. Like the citations which are generally considered the sign of scientific importance of a paper

They are intertwined - Altmetric is a sign of media attention and generally comes from a good quality media release : news 8 points, each twitter or Bluesky post 1 point,… - other time just because people like the work - so if many people re-tweet the attention to work (Altmetric) goes up

High Altmetric is generally useful for commercialisation and possibly enhanced public attention - Altmetric of >1000 for a few papers resulted in a few companies out of my lab
