You’re definitely generally right about this. When it’s to the point that someone has failed to follow my barebones rules, it becomes less about wanting to hear the fill (already kinda soured on it by then anyway) and more about self-respect. That’s why I won’t hesitate to confront them in DMs

They mostly comply, but that still doesn’t make it okay of course. Only one person got actively angry with me, and I’ve only had to threaten takedown once. Those were unrelated though.

I learned this the hard way when I started. As an “unknown” writer, I went through a period of this happening way too often and it was disheartening. Nowadays I’m always on the lookout and DMing the moment I come across a filler who didn’t follow my rules. I’ve gotten a wide range of reactions to it

There’s a small but existing subset of people who view writers’ scripts as something they’re entitled to. Like a writer should just be lucky their script was used. It’s important to note that most VAs aren’t like this but when does happen, it’s so frustrating to me

It includes any rules for sure! Writers should feel comfortable confronting people who don’t respect their policy. Back when I started I didn’t feel justified in doing so. I sure as hell do it every time now tho

You should! I‘m the same. I really didn’t mind people using my work to help themselves out but when some people can’t be fucked to follow incredibly basic rules for the person who spent hours writing and editing a free script, it becomes a matter of valuing yourself and your work where others won’t

It’s like forgetting to invite the writer of a book to the opening night of its film adaptation. Laughably ridiculous and rude.

I almost always get “sorry I forgot!” when this happens. You spent hours recording, editing, AND crediting someone for their work and you forgot to send a fill? Nah. You just don’t value them enough to deem it necessary. And when no payment is requested, it’s especially inconsiderate.
