Glad I gave the new Star Trek series a chance. I love SNW, but didn't care for the soap opera of Disco and the marketing for Starfleet Academy looked like a college-age drama. But it's wonderfully modern Trek! With a Klingon birdwatcher! And a "photonic" cadet! #StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy

Took Lucy to Syringa and she enjoyed minor adventures, but she's an old lady baby and a little less nimble these days.

Thinking about: what is the purpose of a recording?

Terry Manning: To capture a human moment.

Mutt Lange: To build the ideal version of the song.

Nigel Godrich: To create a sonic world the listener can inhabit.

I agree with @burkeholland.bsky.social 's advice to devs: "Stop trying to figure out your place in an AI-first world. The answer is the same as it always was: make things."

Opus 4.5 is going to change everything
Three months ago I would have dismissed claims that AI could replace developers. Today, after using Claude Opus 4.5, I believe AI coding agents can absolutely replace developers.

CBC: "The concept is to take trees from the local territory, mill them locally, and then have local workers use that lumber to build panels, which are then used to construct a house in a matter of days."

Completed a little Minecraft themed LEGO set: the Wolf Stronghold. I've played LEGO games but not assembled a kit in ages. The Builder app is pretty cool. 🤓

Finished The Sorcerer of the Wildeeps by Kai Ashante Wilson last night. It was good, but not really for me—and that’s ok. I’m glad I read it, since it’s been a while since I picked up a novel that plays with language this much. Flip side is that it felt a bit like Mariah Carey trilling on too long.

I can understand why it's a good idea to involve a philosopher to shape the character of an interactive product. I don't understand "AI welfare" though. To me, it's like arguing for the welfare of an NPC or fictional character.
