His dilemma here is that he knows on the eyes of the 'general public' he needs to win over, this looks terrible, but his more enthusiastic supporters don't think he did anything wrong, and if he apologises it basically questions their championing of his racist agenda.

Can we change the narrative on this. Everyone start pushing the theory that - in fact - they're signalling Englands long standing support for immigrants as his father was Palestinian-Syrian, his mother was Palestinian and he was born in Turkey. Worth a shot...maybe????
