According to the article, she isn't an American citizen.
Your first clue is the first sentence. I'm a citizen and I've yet to have a scheduled check-in with ICE.
She had a green card which was revoked because of a criminal conviction 20 years ago.
There's clearly more to this story.

Elevation is one of those "so bad it's good" movies
Insects emerge from the ground War of the Worlds-style and kill everyone - but for some reason they can't go above 8000 ft. They can't even reach above that line with their limbs, so 8001 ft is safe.
Watch it for a laugh.

The NewsHour has been going out of their way to appeal to the right ever since January and it's been pathetic to watch.
Last night, right after talking about how much of Project 2025 had been implemented, they had Christopher Rufo on to talk about how evil colleges are.

Some Russian channel uploaded a dubbed version of my SDA video without my consent.
This is the back-end. I can ignore it, remove/strike it, or contact them. There is no option to claim the ad revenue.
The next time a reactor says it's unfair to strike them, know that that's the only real option.

This is how every person who sat on the Hawaiian throne, was declared eligible for it, or was presumed to be next post-overthrow, is related.
This took me 9 hours to make. You have no idea how much I had to sift through to connect everyone like this.

Here's a website repeating the claim, saying that permission was given 50 years before the arrival of the missionaries.
Again, the missionaries came in 1820. So Vancouver was asked to send missionaries in 1770.
24 years before he even visited Hawaii.
6 years before Captain Cook found the islands.

Keanu Sai's dissertation includes that bit from Vancouver's journal about them not interfering with the religion RIGHT BEFORE the Hopkins quote.
Jarves is even in his source list, though he doesn't quote from it.
So, which version did he tell Sarah Vowell? The Anglican one.

In fact, if we go to Vancouver's journal for the day of the cession, February 25 1794...
VANCOUVER HIMSELF says that he agreed that the government and religion would not be interfered with and the chiefs and priests would continue as they always have.

So alright, they're both citing Jarves. So let's find his book... oh look, here's that exact quote from the bishop regarding the "true religion."
But THE VERY NEXT SENTENCE SAYS THAT KAMEHAMEHA WAS NOT INTERESTED!!!
No permission was given!!!

Hopkins wrote his book on behalf of the Hawaiian monarchy to convince London to establish an Anglican church in Hawaii - and it worked. One opened in Honolulu that year.
Here's the bishop of that church writing on the same topic five years later.
Again, the same claim. Citing Jarves.

So I go to the Library of Congress and find Hopkins book. And yep, there's the claim, word for word as it appears in the dissertation.
Hopkins doesn't have footnotes, but in this same chapter, he makes it clear that he is citing James Jackson Jarves.
We'll come back to that.

He has his dissertation posted online and that same claim about Vancouver sending missionaries is in there.
Thankfully, since this is a dissertation, it's sourced. It comes from Hopkins' book, published in 1862.

He's the leader of the Hawaiian Kingdom Government. One of about a dozen sovereignty groups cosplaying as the continuation of the old kingdom.
He's the acting Minister of Interior and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
He has a PhD in Political Science.

So I wanted to know where she got this information - and there are no footnotes. In fact, most of the book is just quotes of interviews, including this paragraph.
It isn't "according to Kuykendall in 1924."
It's "Keanu Sai told me."
So, who is Keanu Sai?
She calls him a "Hawaiian historian," but-

This is the craziest research journey I've ever been on. Strap in.
Unfamiliar Fishes (2011) by Sarah Vowell used to be my favorite book. But reading it for this video, I noticed some questionable takes and oversimplifications.
This was the paragraph that broke the illusion entirely for me.
