Vman makes a really important point - a lot of commenters (and some of my Puerto Rican friends) seem convinced Puerto Rico wants to be a state … (DC actually does.) If we all study our history we shouldn’t be so sure. Some want independence, some want statehood, some want no change.

It’s a high risk move. Bonanza for Trump this year but …. if we regain our footing in “normal” politics (scary that that phrase must be preceded by “if,”) the Dems will, within 10 years, admit DC and Puerto Rico as states, which will permanently change the nature of the Senate in the Dems’ favor.

Important to ponder. But that’s going to overlap a bunch with “rural area.” To really understand this phenomenon, it’s important to tease those two variables apart. Do we have any data on how he did in rural areas *with* papers? Or isolated small cities without?

Rural take-out is way worse. It’s all logical if you look at the economics of restaurants, but it’s a bummer for most of the country.
