Long story short, I can see why companies *pay* for hosted Kubernetes/Containerization. But that's NOT what I want to do.

But this inspired a thought: If these blogs were AI generated, how bad could a LLM actually be? That led to an interesting side project comparing how each LLM answers what I thought was a relatively simple prompt. (github.com/kmsigma/llm-...)

I've been using my Hyper-V-enabled desktop to do all the tests before I sacrifice my physical hardware to the containerization deity, and nothing has worked.

I decided that I'm just an idiot and I must not understand how things work "properly" with any of these, so I went back to basics and ran through Kubernetes the Hard Way (github.com/kelseyhighto...). At no point, do the steps ever speak about building a CRD or CSI to connect to storage.

Problem:
Every single blog (not official docs) describing this process are:
a) very old : the commands/tools/etc. are no longer viable
b) skip over some important information (even if you go back to previous authored content)
c) read like they were AI generated (word salad for the sake of clicks)

Tried:
Docker Swarm w/ Gluster FS ❌
Kubernetes (full) with Ceph (full) ❌
MicroK8s with MicroCeph ❌

The last got the closest but still threw volume creation problems.

Since this is a home lab, it needs to survive the occasional power and/or network outage. It's all on a UPS, but things happen.

Clustered storage options
1) Gluster
2) Ceph

Gluster appears to be deprecated, so that's out, leaving me with Ceph, but it doesn't mean I didn't try.

Since any Linux OS can easily run in < 50GB for forever, I was using simple partitioning - no LVM, no encryption.
Disk partitioning
/dev/{nvme0n1p|sda}1 :: /boot/efi [~1GB]
/dev/{nvme0n1p|sda}2 :: / [=50GB]
/dev/{nvme0n1p|sda}3 :: (saved for cluster storage) [~460GB]

This thread has the ability to go just like the Jimmy John's post that asks how people like to top their subs.

If there isn't an appendix about stopping an amputated appendage with duct tape, is it even a book?
