Today's preview gives some indication why this is the case 😅
They are keeping the "1" at the start internally and for pack versions. So preview version 26.0.23 is actually version 1.26.0.23 internally, which is pretty much the same format as the old system

Would be most helpful to know what Mojang's goals are with updates! Because a lot of people would just say add more things to the game and fill it with content 😜 But I know you guys have certain visions for each update.

Yes, we agree the drops system has benefits and drawbacks. The current plan is to continue to release drops but we're always looking for ways to improve the process
