It’s not even entirely the norms themselves; you’re expected to banter and give them shit back. If you can do that then it doesn’t matter what you do; if you can’t, it doesn’t matter how much you conform, they’ll find something else to pick on.

Huh, I wonder how much constantly being called that by other kids when I was like 8 did it for me. Though I didn’t know what it meant (not sure they did either), and was deeply confused for a long time because the only definition in our dictionary was “a bundle of sticks”.

OTOH I hear it all the time from millennials ~10 years younger than me. Personally I just want more straight women who look like this again.

I wonder if it’s a function of where I lived or the general bifurcation of Gen X that you still see, but my experience has been the opposite. Especially once we got into the 90s a lot of that disappeared; I never experienced it and it seems incredibly dumb.

No you’re not. Also it’s not necessarily sampling declining but what’s been accessioned into museums and digitized. Where I work (which is not in GBIF anyway) very little has been officially added to the collection in the past 30 years due to the lack of staff to integrate it.

There are lots of people who I agree with on most everything who I find annoying. You can just not read what they say! So many people have broken their brains so much that they make it their personal crusade to drive off the internet any person who annoys them.

YES, I hate smelling like anything. I have to share a washing machine and sometimes the other people use some kind of horrible stuff that causes my clothes to smell too when I use it after them.

Maybe I’m in the minority, but the problem I have is the opposite: I want it to return results just based on what I search for, not what it thinks I wanted. I didn’t misspell anything, I didn’t actually want to look for this other thing. Even before LLMs, forced term inclusion stopped working.
