Maybe they do know but if so it's a pretty strange branding choice. Like calling your data centre company Orwell.

4/ I can't help but think "what would Octavia do?"... "what would Ursula do?" at various points in the narrative and the general answer is, either wouldn't have stated the bleedin' obvious but offered satisfying layers of nuance, beautifully expressed

3/ I do listen to, read and enjoy plenty of writers that aren't doing 'literary fiction' sci fi/fantasy but are stylish and captivating story-tellers. Not sure I will stick this one out. But it offers a good opportunity to think about how to write sci fi, what doesn't work & try to figure out why

2/ It tells a story but there's no compelling style or finesse or depth to the writing. It just tells the story. Not expecting everyone to be a Le Guin but I wonder how this got published or the writer nominated for prizes. When there are So! Many! Great! Writers! that don't get that visibility
