Amanda Crocker from Penelakut studies Indigenous languages and is enrolled in a BA program at SFU. Her “goal is to help and assist … in the big job of carrying forward the sacred Hul’q’umi’num’ language learning and speaking to the next generation.”

She has spent her life in Coast Salish territory and is grateful to the people and land for their gifts and teachings. Her published writing includes poetry, short fiction and non-fiction. She lives on #Snuneymuxw territory and enjoys reading, watching hockey, and walking with her dog Raven.

Sharon believes in the power of Indigenous-led and community-determined programs to create lasting, sustainable change. Her PhD research titled, “Haq wil la hlo is sim: Walk Slowly on the Breath of your Ancestors,” examined Indigenous gift-giving and was inspired by her Grandfather’s teachings.
