In contrast to its importance as grain crop, the market value of #quinoa as ornamental plant is zero.
We are interested in the genetics of flower traits. The phenotypic variation of quinoa flowers hopefully leads to exciting applications for breeding of this crop!

My youngest daughter just learned about Mendelian genetics in school, so we took an evening walk to the state variety trial in my wife's hometown.
We discussed how #genetics applies to agriculture using #barley varieties as examples. So let's hope she wants to know more about the topic😉

The highlight of our course on plant genetic resources was the excursion with the students to public and private plant breeders in Switzerland 🇨🇭. And I could show them my favorite swimming spot at Walensee.
