Wouldn't most Latin writers have put at least one of those nested statements into indirect or even direct speech?

True, but I don't think that is any less likely in a medieval battle, where people did wear just the breastplate.

I think the response would be along the lines of:

1. Sell all US treasury bonds, stocks, etc. in Central Bank ownership for pennies on the dollar.
2. Put a 99% tax on all bmUS bonds, stocks etc. in private ownership to force a mass sell-off
3. Refuse to buy oil in dollars.

Avoids war (for now)

This is going to make the situation in Iraq look like a masterpiece in forward planning isn't it?

Yes, but it's Ancient Greek rocks placed atop other Ancient Greek rocks. Therefore they are all inordinately pleased with themselves. Strata upon strata of smug silicates, if you will.

This is really interesting to me in that it almost explicitly assumes that the Republican platform and supporter base is effectively immobile and unchanging. Like they couldn't comprehend changing their policy platform to win voters over - which is pretty fundamental to any representative government

Yes, it would be an improvement, but however it were staffed, I think it would become a target for either side in any attempted 'long march through the institutions,' at best.

It would also of course be a piñata for attacks by populists.

How would you ensure that it didn't get captured by partisan interest? The Supreme Court was, as I understand it, originally created as a non-partisan body, and look how that turned out.

I would be really interested in getting involved in this if there are still openings!
