I still love patchwork, I still hate custard and I still make a mean toffee apple. History, sleep support and who knows what else besides, all in beautiful East Lothian.
I love the shop awnings.

It sounds as if it will be an amazing piece if work 💜

The *control* that hand-sewing gives is a major factor. Plus - I like doing it! Can't curl up on the sofa with a sewing machine....

Leith Walk as well!

I think the technique is as old as time - using ink dots on your thumb - the issue for me here is:
1. Another piece of plastic
2. Another pointless purchase
3. Any implication that even work mimics machines, when it's the other way round!

Welcome to East Lothian!
Of course from the top you would have been able to see Traprain Law, and Largo Law over in Fife, and know that Dundee Law was just out of sight. We do like our laws around here....

(....it's not just the main entrance, it's the ONLY entrance. There is no other....)

put subtitles on if you are getting used to accent.
Castle for Christmas on Netflix is laughable to a local but at least has recent shots eg Edinburgh Airport.

Local resident here.
If you want an animation showing recognisable scenes of Edinburgh, try The Illusionist (2010 animation not 2006 live action).
Kids might enjoy Restless Natives - but .../-

My memories of it are indelibly connected with the sound of jackdaws and the taste of gingerbread, which helps....

It's Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh, rather than King Arthur's Seat, and there's no clear Arthurian link: the name may simply be a corrupted Gaelic name.
However there are dozens if not hundreds of King Arthur's this and Merlin's that all over Britain....

I am used to this too, but it's probably wrong.
Isobel Strong, Stevenson’s stepdaughter, wrote this in her biography of him:
“He was... christened Robert Lewis Balfour Stevenson. The spelling, but not the pronunciation, of this second name was changed later and the Balfour dropped.”

Meanwhile I'm over in West Edinburgh, nearly two miles from my nearest bookshop, which is also a Waterstones...

There are huge swathes of this city with no bookshops for miles around, including places with substantial shopping areas.

Waterstones would be welcome - and profitable - in any of those.
