yeah but its complicated. i host my own user account, but because thats just "part" of bluesky, bluesky can ban me and i cant do jack or shit (though my data will still exist). people are maybe trying to host the parts that power it being "social" instead of just "media" tho

ideally sites just dont suck, but if you post objectionable content or want to be on a site where your friends who post objectionable content are welcome, youre kinda forced to read the community guidelines OTL (which bsky makes very hard to do...)

(fun fact: the draft for the community guideline changes had a line that banned sfw age gap [ship] art. they removed it, But.)(they also used to explicitly ban violent artwork, and i dont believe for a second they wont find an excuse for why the new tos still bans it lol)
