like.... huh. They also do this with him because he had an explicitly clear past relationship with a woman so it's another layer of bi/pan erasure and gold star queer bullshit that somehow his attraction to men and nonbinary folks is somehow invalidated by that one relationship. Frustrating

Gale in particular gets depicted by a certain section of the fandom as the stereotypical cishet male romantasy fantasy type of guy that often.... just ignores or misinterprets who he is as a character. The starkest example I saw was a tradcath on Tumblr arguing he was "traditional" and "pro life"

And so then by extension the fandom tried to push that people who romanced Gale and were fans of him were “girlies” when like nah I’m a proud gay man I’m not going to misgender myself just to fit in

I really didn’t like this trend because it also fed into the weird subtle homophobia that exists in parts of the fandom. Even though it was made clear by Larian that Gale and the other companions are pan there was still a weird push by some fans to depict Gale as strictly heterosexual.
