Buddy Miles. He was a musician - vocalist often criticized for skating on a fault line, juggling a delicate balance between his love for rock and R&B. Buddy eventually got his soul props, with two Billboard R&B chart hits. Here's my throwback interview with Buddy Miles youtu.be/4Y3VftYjbKQ?...

One of my pre-teen song favorites. Lou Christie had one hit on the R&B Charts, "Two Faces Have I" in 1963, a #11 song. Critic Jason Ankeny says "Lou Christie's shrieking falsetto was among the most distinctive voices in all of pop music." Lou composed some of his own music too. RIP.

Sly Stone, Brian Wilson, same week, RIP. Here are two Beach Boys albums I have. You also see in the photo the first Beach Boy's 45 RPM single I purchased, "Darlin!' Many people did not like "Here Comes The Night," a song they rerecorded in 1979. I loved the 4 minute dance version (edited from 11).

When I was 18, I interviewed legendary New York City radio host and writer Gary Byrd. Originally posted on my history website, here's Gary, after my introduction, talking about Curtis Mayfield and Sly Stone. It's 59 seconds, pulled from the 5-1/2 minute conversation. Sly Stone, RIP.
