Oh good! That’s what they should do. (Though planning for heat ahead of time would be even better.)

But heat is dangerous for everyone, especially with a changing climate with circumstances changing faster than people’s ability to plan for an adapt to them.

The producers *should* have put everyone in the shade (thus demonstrating the curb cut effect) but the person most hurt and put at risk of permanent harm through their poor handling of the situation was Adam and we shouldn’t focus on that.

And Joseph has on the whole been really lovely and supportive with Adam and I know he loves him a lot. But it’s an important reminder that having a disabled relative or even being disabled yourself doesn’t make you automatically impervious to ableism in our society. It seeps in.

My kid at the end when Joseph was talking about Adam just needing to believe in himself: “why are we completely ignoring that he almost died at the roadblock?”

(My kids have a severely disabled mother. They are learning to call out ableist narratives.)

Maybe maybe someone mild (50% loss of function/activity) could last a week or two. But nobody moderate could tolerate the sensory, social, or physical exertion.

Someone severe wouldn’t even be able to travel to the studio without crashing, even if they lived locally.

Sometimes I am sad that it would be almost impossible for anyone with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis to play on a show like BB and raise awareness like that.
