“What dreadful Hot weather we have!—it keeps one in a continual state of inelegance.” — Jane Austen, in a letter to her sister, Cassandra, September 18, 1796.

And we're glad the younger generations are paying attention and getting serious, too! I'm so encouraged.

"They were careless people, Tom and Daisy - they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made."

-F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, 1925.

Like a Colossus; and we petty men
Walk under his huge legs, and peep about

Greek mythology, Stephen King, and Jane Austen. Adding sci fi and fantasy for the complete Jane Austen Venn diagram sets. Sci-fi and Jane Austen, you say? As proof, I offer this Google search for the term "sci-fi" that turns up Austen's Juvenilia in the first results. IYKYK.

Finished sewing the clasp on my version of a Georgian/early-Victorian bead-embroidered velvet ribbon cuff bracelet. The gold-plated brass clasp echoes the affordable faux gold pinchbeck clasp of the original. These cuffs were pretty trinkets, not fine jewery!

Antique jewelry craft project: my version of a Georgian/early-Victorian bead-embroidered velvet ribbon cuff bracelet. Using modern #11 seed beads works up faster than the original microbeads. Now to sew on the clasp!
