“The prime minister, Anthony Albanese, told Victorians: “We’ve got your back”.”

This coming from the PM who approved the extension of Woodside’s North West Shelf project, which is expected to generate 4 billion tonnes of emissions over 50 years, further fuelling these fires.

i suppose what i'm saying is, act 3 will take a sexually violent turn and we will have to pretend to be surprised by that turn
wagering now that emerald fennell is going to use her overly romanticised & aestheticised "wuthering heights" to rug pull the audience and go "actually it's a story about ABUSE" 😤 then use that as justification for casting a white heathcliff

The Adelaide Writers Festival now wrecked by the Adelaide Festival Board, half of which was appointed late last year: a marketing executive; a former politician; a local councillor/real estate agent; an airport manager; a lawyer; a media consultant; and a banker. Another public arts takeover fiasco.

Opinion | The Victorian government is using the horrific East Melbourne synagogue attack as a veil to bring in draconian new anti-protest laws. They will only result in more division and violence, @sarahschwartz.bsky.social writes.
Victoria's draconian new anti-protest laws will have a chilling effect on free speech — and won't keep anyone safe
Far-reaching anti-protest measures and giving police more repressive powers only serve to increase the risk of escalating violence.

I’ve made the post-9/11 comparison before, but there really is a growing, and depressing, familiarity with how the media and politicians are treating this current moment and the War on Terror era. It shows how nothing structurally has shifted in the past 20 years re policing Arabs and Muslims.
Sorry, what now, Victoria?

Cameron Stewart is the deputy chair of the Walkleys judging board. The treatment of News Corp as a “normal” actor by the rest of the Australian media makes them all pretty culpable for their racism, genocide apologism general corrosiveness.

Hilarious this person influences “prestigious” awards.
