For the avoidance of doubt this means there are more voters to be won by not being racist than being racist.
Why do people think England flags have been raised on lampposts?

White adults
National pride: 26%
Anti-migrant/minority sentiment: 49%
Both: 19%

Ethnic minority adults
National pride: 15%
Anti-migrant/minority sentiment: 55%
Both: 20%

I think broadcast, especially in areas like economics, always has to operate with the Stan Lee Marvel comics rule and remember every issue might be somebody’s first.
That doesn’t mean you dumb down, it means you explain and don’t assume knowledge.
To add to this - it's not like the public is being well served by broadcast news moving at the pace of 24 hour scrolling and the politically obsessed - it just means every election large numbers of people end up googling 'what is austerity?' 'What is brownfield?' etc. etc.
This is bizarre. Like the editor of the guardian or mail or any other paper complaining repeatedly about the front page lead they decided to run with.

Very good example of what's wrong with broadcast news - they've given up deciding for themselves what is or isn't news and what the priorities are

The brutality of the Trump-Putin alliance that has been unleashed on Ukraine in recent days is staggering. It comes as no surprise, but it is still shocking.
Whether it likes it or not, Europe has become the last stronghold of the rule of law.

I apologise for this, but I need everyone to join me in a rousing internal chorus of Where's the money from? to the tune of chirpy chirpy cheep cheep.

What is Reform-curious voters' biggest hesitation?

The party's lack of governing experience

That's according to new @thinksinsight.bsky.social research shared exclusively with PolHome this weekend

Reform as a "risk" to the country, and a single-issue party (immigration), are also concerns
Reform Curious Voters Worry That The Party Lacks Experience
Voters who are thinking about backing Reform UK at the next general election are concerned that the party lacks experience of government.

This is one of my favourite bits on here: the Uk actually taxes its top decile a lot and under taxes the middle, giving us Europes most progressive taxation system. European taxes for the top decile and then they get frozen out of the benefits system because the middle do not pay their share.

Discombobulating data for those who believe our fiscal problems can be solved by squeezing high earners further. (Scotland, of course, is an even bigger outlier.)

Lovely short thread (with a v good piece at the end). I think Ruth's point at the end is entirely right. Also I think shows that 'being an effective minister' is a skillset in itself. Castle was not a transport wonk or labour market wonk or a welfare wonk, yet she was v effective in all three roles.
This week is Road Safety Week & a chance to talk about Barbara Castle!

Barbara was Transport Minister for three years yet she was able to introduce the Breathalyzer, a proper integrated transport strategy & more!

This was done despite fierce opposition.

Leather jacket figures. A colleague used to see him having a sausage roll with brown sauce in a cafe in Liphook after his problems. Always with a leather jacket.

Local school kids would poke their heads round the door and shout "where's Dusty Bin?"

I got the impression he was one of them.
