Our education minister (Ireland) has been pushing a narrative about "anxiety about illness" to explain increased absence. So much so that the public health advice to schools was changed this year to *encourage* parents to send children with coughs, runny noses, and sore thoats to school.

But, more seriously, I think it's Big Money seeing the potential end of the Fianna Fáil/Fine Gael duopoly, and using the remaining time of that dominance to enact favourable legislation that would take any new progressive government a long time to untangle.

I would've assumed it's just the construction/developer lobby putting the government under the cosh. It's probably also a backlash to the Greens being in govt which throttled the road-building industry: They want to make sure there are no more barriers to road-building.

I'm sorry to hear that. It is so unfair that anyone should have to do those calculations when trying to access healthcare. Our hospitals in Ireland only initiate precautions after the horse has bolted, and usually that amounts to visitor "restrictions" and "Masks are available if you want." 🤷🏼‍♂️
