“Your angelness” is a much more interesting vocative

I did wonder if it was υμων and am surprised that it could actually make sense in the context of the text! I’m blanking on the general rules for separating words, but I don’t think it’s unheard of to split a pronoun

Could it be a stretched out upsilon? Every time I look at a Byzantine manuscript I always come across some incomprehensible abbreviation but someone on here always knows what it is somehow

Haha you’re good! I won’t be there this year so i wouldn’t even be around to be awkward with

Oh one more piece of advice! Crash school receptions! You might need to find an alumn or student to go with, but stealing food and drinks from Harvard or UChicago is a respected tradition

Bring some electrolyte powder for your water bottle. Sometimes water isn’t enough for conference dehydration.

If you’re awkward at social events approach other awkward people who are standing around awkwardly! I’ve met some lovely folks like this, and you already have something in common.

It’s such an interesting reading! I remember that one line from encountering it in class over 10 years ago.

@krokopeplos.bsky.social you might be interested! I have a scan if you have trouble tracking it down.

I did end up finding this! It’s Victoria Wohl’s chapter “Beyond Sexual Difference” in The Soul of Tragedy (2005). The bit about the fragmentary state of the text is just a small aside, but it’s worth reading for gender stuff. It infuriated me as an undergrad for being too Deleuzian haha.

Wonderful! It might only be about USD $20/hr. If that’s okay with you, I can put you in touch with my friend

My experience too! At least it’s not an entirely unique style (looking at you, journal I won’t name)
