I agree. But this also speaks volumes as to how embedded ableism is in society and even ourselves. It shouldn’t have to feel this bad to need others’ help or patience sometimes.

You’re recovering, the fact you are still writing and making figures is amazing. I have had so many days when all I want to do is sulk and do nothing. It takes a lot to not give in and to keep going even if in little ways.

It’s so frustrating when health issues last far past what you thought their “expiration date” would be. The emotional roller coaster of hope and setbacks can be a lot. Just know you’re not alone. Have any accommodations or adapted workflows helped?

This is no time to run academia as if it were immune to sociology-political and environmental crisis. It is time to learn from each other how to put academia - and intellectual life more generally - at the service of society. My deepest thanks to all who continue to provide models and inspiration
