There was a working human Lyme disease vaccine but the manufacturer took it off the market after they got bad press nd a lawsuit about supposed adverse reactions... turned out to be nothing but America has been deprived of Lyme vaccination for decades because of this

Just in the movies we see that Gungans have negative attitudes towards the humans, that they seem to live entirely underwater despite being amphibious, and that Naboo's representative in the galactic government is a human (until Jar-Jar helps save the planet)... vibe I got was humans run the show

Do you mean Attack of the Clones or the animated series? (Or the other animated series?)

It took more than eight HUNDRED years for Naboo to get its first Gungan senator.

Isn't he literally written as one of the indigenous people of Naboo, whose society has long-standing tension with the human settler population?
It's fair to criticise the quality of how he is (and how Gungans are) written, but the "indigenous" thing isn't a metaphor here, it's just in the text.

I'd be more curious about what is actually going on; even if the other characters are okay in principle with the hivemind, it's odd to me that not one of them is trying to dig in to how it all works. (I guess that's going to be part of Rhea Seehorn's arc?)

Canberra is not built up enough for my taste but one of the things I liked about it was having a big nature reserve in the middle of the city (my daily commute went through this one).

Are those all actually cafes & restaurants in the Vietnam pic? That's cool.

I remember when I first properly looked up taqiyya sometime in the second half of the 2010s.
I had a general idea of (b) from incidental exposure to right-wing blogs & comments since 2005ish. I was shocked (I guess I shouldn't have been) when I realised how flagrantly & outrageously false this was.

The "diffuse" typo in place of "defuse" seems particularly egregious when made by a Khornite, since it removes the bomb metaphor

There is a similar right-wing narrative about London Mayor Sadiq Khan, and like with Zohran it involves a spectacularly, obviously wrong reading of who he is as a person and politician.

Always found it slightly interesting that baseball doesn't actually have a time limit and can in principle go on indefinitely--unlike cricket.
(Of course the reason for not having a time limit is that in practical terms the games don't last long enough to need one.)

They are making a movie of a Dramione fanfic now

Why does Tiberius not have a popular reputation on the level of Nero and Caligula though. I read Suetonius a few months back and he was like "yeah Tiberius was a paedophile rapist who took personal pleasure in torturing and killing people". But the other two get all the press.

I think this is just them pivoting to a different underlying technology to more closely copy OpenAI. Their main AI guy for many years has been Yann LeCun who is accomplished but who has an idiosyncratic vision for what the software architecture should be--Meta are cutting teams he assembled.

The more overt racism still shows up every so often, but his larger project afaict is just trying to make race science respectable. He's single-minded about that one thing and is willing to abandon as many other right-wing shibboleths as he needs to so that he can average out as somewhat "centrist".

I saw someone express disappointment after seeing this poster, describing it as "modernslop".
