Oh, thank you. It was not scary at the time, more surreal than anything else (and exhausting afterward, I could have napped for a week).

Oh yeah, the one time I went on a date with a “no small talk EVER” person, it was unsettling as hell. Went from “hi, nice to meet you” to “what does your inner voice sound like” in less than one minute. And just, WHOA, slow down.

You need small talk to establish you can trust someone with bigger talk. “How ‘bout that weather?” “Oh it’s been wild”: neither of us care about the weather, we might as well be making dial-up modem noises. The point is to see if this is a freak who can’t EVEN be trusted with the weather question.

Works great with the old wives’ tale that cats suck the breath out of babies. A small magic creature, often confused with cats, that occasionally preys on humans when wild/feral but can be domesticated and trained as a service animal. Sleeps most of the day, works at night.
