I agree Trump’s more popular with “the base” than other republicans, I’m not sure him being gone changes much because the base will still show up to vote for whoever because they’re afraid of anything Trumps has accomplished being “rolled back”. The left fights with itself (I don’t see R’s doing so)

The JD Vance’s and Patrick Deneen’s of the world are latching onto affordability but in a populist sense, which is “if we get rid of immigrants, demand for housing will decline and will become more affordable”; it’s like a racist version of YIMBY: affordability without building more.
