Mage Against the Machine
@kevinzeke.bsky.social
Canucks/Goldeneyes fan, heavy metal, reader, some kind of leftist wizard. Living on unceded territory on Vancouver Island. Contributor to Invisible Oranges. He/him.
The Ocean (rightfully) got a lot of attention with Pelagial, but I have a much deeper soft spot for the -centric albums. The very proggy Heliocentric in particular is a favourite.

We love a good upbeat, joyful prog album in these parts!

I love living in Cascadia, man.

Today is for some sick blackened melodic death metal.

Been a while since I've listened to Remedy Lane, but now feels like a good time.

Absolutely brilliant musically and achingly grim lyrically.

It's crooner Friday, folks!

When people talk about Master's Hammer, the album that I see most people bring up is Ritual. Which is entirely reasonable, it rules.

However, I would like to draw your attention to the equally brilliant (and far weirder) Jilemnický okultista.

Getting into the Halloween spirit! Two movies starring the stunning Linnea Quigley (though only one of them that I actually liked)

I watched this movie last night. It was a true treat! It's a film that's made to imitate a local access news broadcast from 1987 and it really nails it.

Thanks to the eternally haunted @horrorvanguard.bsky.social for turning me on to this one.

It's peak funeral doom season.

Occult rock in general really peaked from 2009-2014 or so

Occult rock peaked in 2009.

This is what peak performance looks like.

Lucerne Hammer makes me feel like I did in the early 2010s when I was depressed and downloading obscure black metal demos from sketchy Blogspot pages. (complimentary)

Plus it's got a structure on the art!

Some cool stoner prog metal for your afternoon!

It was vet checkup day for this little guy today. Apparently he's in perfect health!

Today's movie was Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages (1922, dir. Benjamin Christensen)

Beautiful, unsettling, and eerie! A silent horror masterpiece.
October 3, 2025 at 1:28 AM
Started my October Horror Movie Marathon tonight with Grave Encounters (2011, dir. Colin Minihan and Stuart Ortiz)

It's a decently executed haunted asylum movie. FX are definitely low-budget and it's fairly predictable, but there were a couple good spooks.

Happy 15th birthday to one of the greatest prog metal albums of all time! It's hard to believe this album is that old now - I remember when it came out... It launched Enslaved from "band I like" to "one of my favourite bands ever"
