Mostly functioning. I focus on things I can control and actually make a difference in and try to be intentional about when and how I consume the news instead of allowing it to invade all parts of my life. Otherwise I’d spend all day feeling pessimistic and hopeless and that’s not helping anyone.

I remember that being a selling point of the original iPhone too. They did a demo of being able to pinch and zoom on the full NYT homepage. Though it was pretty easy to outrun the renderer and see the underlying missing texture checkerboard pattern.

You can’t even turn them off. That notification switch is fake and just redirects you to the notification settings in the Settings app. So your only options are all notifications or no notifications.

And even things that you'd think would be available aren't. Like I tried to buy DS9, VOY and Buffy on DVD. And all 3 of them ended up being single-layer low quality bootlegs.

I really hope buying physical media becomes a thing again. I feel like when it was common I was too young to afford it, and now that I can afford it and want it nobody's making it anymore. I recently went to buy Severance on Blu-ray and season 2 doesn't exist and season 1 isn't even in 4K.

I've had probably less than 5 main usernames over the almost 30 years I've been on the internet. So the idea that you would just accept whatever random username was given to you like this was 4chan or something seems very weird to me.

So I signed out and went to make a new account and apparently these username are all randomly generated by Reddit themselves? Why would Reddit want to make the site look like it's overrun with bots, and why do people not care what their username is anymore?

Like everything else with AI. It's only impressive if you don't look at it too closely, or if you just don't care about being beholden to perpetually paying some other company for code maintenance as a service.

The AI code works but it's a mess. There's like 2 or 3 different coding styles mixed together, multiple functions that do almost exactly the same thing, and whole swaths of code that never gets called because it doesn't ever clean up anything outside of it's context window.
December 23, 2025 at 6:58 PM
I worry about what's going to happen to the code bases people will have to maintain if AI goes bust. I've spent the past week refactoring largely AI generated code because it bugged me that I didn't intuitively know how my own software was working.

Probably easier from a grading standpoint. When we were allowed to make our own conclusions it didn't matter whether they were well supported. It only mattered that we had the "correct" conclusion according to the curriculum.

I was told by a teacher in high school that our papers should not contain any original ideas. We were merely collecting and summarizing other sources.
