Now a five year old phone will do what most people need a phone for and will likely do that for another five years. The new features of the latest phones are not compelling. Some of them I'd hang on to an old phone specifically to avoid.

It's just the nature of maturing technology. I remember when the iPods were first released and people were upgrading every year. Because this year's iPods were just that much better than last years. So if you could afford it you probably did. The early iPhones were similar.

The first movie set up what I thought was a potentially interesting arc. Some of which I think was unintentional, some of which I think was but most ended up on the cutting room floor. But the latter two movies no only didn't pay it off but also didn't maintain any coherency internally.

There is runs perfectly fine until you hit an edge case that eats your database. Or runs fine but will tell a malicious user everything they want to know. Production software is complicated and not really subject to such a simple binary.

I read a true crime book "God's Gonna Cut You Down" (actually really fascinating). One of the people was a charismatic street huckster. It became clear that he was so broken that he believed whatever he was saying in the moment. Even when it contradicted what he said in the last moment.
