Luckily, at 49, I mostly have a sense of humor about it and when things fall apart, I'm like, "eh fuck it."

I mean… you can pick at what I said in a college debate kind of way or you can take a step back and ask yourself if there are similarities. I was surprised by people talking like the Soviet era was a good thing, but social media intellectualism doesn’t really interest me

Both pretended to be helping regular people while quietly funneling money and resources to the elite and powerful. Both had secret police to squash anyone they saw as a threat. Both behaved as authoritarians. I’m anti-authoritarian.

I'm sure you know that the Soviet Union did not have open borders. People weren't allowed to leave. I think a good measure of happiness is whether the government trusts its citizens to leave and come back.

I don’t know what polls you are talking about or what books you’re reading. I suggest you talk to some actual people and ask questions. Last night I hung out with a woman who fled Communism to come to America. I’m not lying. A real person. I recommend you talk to people.

Hey. We’re all just random people on an app. Just talking. The world’s problems aren’t being solved on BlueSky tonight.

I’m aware the idea of communism was for regular people to own things in common, but whenever revolutionaries take power, they keep things for themselves. People aren’t good. They are selfish. When anyone has power, they keep the wealth. History demonstrates it.

Obviously you’re allowed to believe whatever you want. I’m just amazed that people are on this site talking about swapping one oppressive regime for a different oppressive regime. Trumpism and Stalinism are basically the same thing, they funnel wealth to the top. I’m anti-oppressive regime.

…after another. But Leninism/Stalinism ain’t the way.

I don’t even know what you’re talking about. All I’m saying is if you think life in the Soviet Union was good, I’d suggest you speak to someone who lived under it or read a first hand account of someone who survived it. *Note: I think capitalism is terrible and that America’s history is one horror…

I don’t think these sort of armchair social media faux debate hypotheticals are particularly interesting. I’m not a prosecutor or politician. They should be held accountable. That’s someone else’s job to figure out.

I don’t think what ICE is doing is legal by any definition.

I recommend you learn more about the history of Russia and the Soviet Union or better yet, read the words of any number of people who fled the Soviet Union

Hold trials. Shine a light on all illegal activity. Prosecute the ones who committed crimes.

*Note: Lenin’s Cheka was the ICE of its day (except even more violent).

not murder them
January 21, 2026 at 10:50 PM
Wait. Are people treating Lenin like a hero now? A year after this quote, he founded the Cheka, which murdered between 50,000 and 200,000 people, plus an additional 400,000 killed in prisons. A lot of these murdered citizens were Russian anarchists. Note: I hate ICE and all forms of state terror.
