Biological anthropologist. Demographer. Human behavioral ecologist. I study reproductive outcomes, parental care, contraceptive usage, low fertility, age at first birth, paternity confidence, and other arcane subjects.
Has the NSF made any announcement about this? Was this just done quietly over a holiday break? Did they think no would notice?

I feel so bad for students who were counting on these grants to finish their degrees and get their careers started.

Just checked and the sociology dissertation improvement grants are archived as well. Did they shut down the entire mechanism, for all disciplines? Or just the social sciences? Does anyone know how widespread this is?

This is devastating, for so many students and for the discipline as a whole.

My wife and daughter have both been asking for updates about Charlie so I’m pleased to have something to show them.

Looks like Charlie has taken a shine to him.

But are you sure he’s not actually a fox?
November 25, 2025 at 6:18 PM
Wait, you have two dogs now? Charlie has a sibling?

Just got mine this afternoon! Arm's a little tender but so far that's it.

It's my go-to shirt for conference presentations.

Old Navy missed a trick with this one. If they had used this fabric to make dresses *with" *pockets*, they would have made a million dollars (just from field biologists/primatologists alone).

So good they named him twice.

This is both hysterical and very alarming

Perhaps the one drawback to living in the same town as Jane and being her student is that I never got a card after she asked me to do my first review as a grad student! I feel cheated!

Looking forward to your book!

If it's the right decision, it's the right decision. Always better to realize that sooner rather than later.

Thanks! Yes, the first thing I did was look up a colleague who'd left Twitter, followed her and then scrolled through everyone she followed. A lot of familiar faces in there!

Thanks so much Barbara! This is very helpful.
