What 11.2 mg/w of silver at $50/oz costs as part of various sized solar panels:

Wattage MG/silver $/module
400 W - 4,480 $7.901
500 W - 5,600 $9.877
600 W - 6,720 $11.852
700 W - 7,840 $13.827
800 W - 8,960 $15.803

Roughly, $0.01975/W - 25% of a 8 cent solar panel's costs.
BNEF estimates that silver use in PV averages 8.96mg/W in 2025, compared with 11.2mg/W in 2024. This aligns directionally with The Silver Institute's estimate of PV silver demand being 195.7 million ounces in 2025 vs 197.6 in 2024.

The Admin is canceling funding Congress has already appropriated, and they are cancelling these projects based on if they happen in places perceived to be political enemies, and even then they don't realize that often the projects happen in places aligned with them politically. Whole thing is bad.
Scoop: IREC, a major renewables industry org that provides technical expertise to local governments (R and D), had to lay off a third of its staff due to Trump cuts that slashed half its budget.

IREC said it was targeted just because its nonprofit was registered in New York. Whole staff is remote.

If fossils are so cheap why do fossil powered grids keep going up in price?
"Spain’s rapid renewables build-out means its power prices were set by fossil generation just 19% of the time, down from 75% in 2019. As a result, wholesale electricity was almost a third cheaper than the EU average"

Imagine having cheaper power

Spain’s Renewable-Energy Boom Loosens Gas’s Grip on Power Prices
Soaring renewables output in Spain is weakening gas’s grip on electricity prices, setting the country apart from much of Europe where fossil fuels still dictate the cost of power.

Many people think solar and wind won't be able to keep the grid stable because they lack "inertia".

I think solar, wind and batteries will do a BETTER job and I think you can explain it thus:
- the old grid is a record player
- the new grid a digital player
