It's been a bit since I've actually used Debian, but it'll always be one of my favorites.

I absolutely wish more people realized this. My boomer parents have been using Linux for years, and they have never been IT pros or anything like that.

They're doing it without my help too. Until recently I wasn't even sure which distro they were running.

So, TikTok is supposedly a national security threat from China, but it seems odd that there's been almost no mainstream press coverage of Trump dismantling the board investigating the Salt Typhoon hack which is an ACTUAL PROVEN hack from China & incredibly damaging. www.techdirt.com/2025/01/23/t...

I've toyed with #nixos in the past, and recently decided to give it a run on a more serious level. One thing I never resolved on my first time around was the best way to manage my #neovim config. I like LazyVim, but I'm also always working on my own as well.

What are you all doing? nixvim?

I never really got into twitter. I had an account that I occasionally used to lurk around, but never participated much.

Let's see if this becomes something I want to keep doing.

Wrote a longish post explaining why Bluesky is enshittification-resistant (not enshittification-proof, mind you, but resistant). I expect some people to get mad about this, but for folks who are concerned/trying to understand...

The key: it has a tech poison pill.

Cloudflare issue can leak chat app users' broad location

A security researcher made a tool that let them check which of Cloudflare's data centers had cached an image, which allowed them to figure out what city a Discord, Signal, or Twitter/X user might be in

Some data breaches include novel information about us, are the result of particularly noteworthy security flaws, or are just so massive they’re impossible to ignore. Here’s EFF’s list of some of the most egregious data breaches of 2024.

Privacy isn’t dead. While some information about you is almost certainly out there, that’s no reason for despair. In fact, it’s a good reason to take action.

I want to remind everyone that your local library is both physical AND digital.

You hate streaming everything because the price is ridiculous? Library.

You hate ads because they're every 3 mins or less? Library.

You want to reduce your digital footprint? Library.

You want sourced info? Library.
