Basically your argument seems to be it's okay if more of our institutions are hollowed out from within and more of our treasury is funneled to the wealthy because someone hypothetical voter in a purple states might use this obscure vote as the deterministic criteria for voting on a Dem.

What Dems need to do is engage an electorate. I'd advise they stop spitting in their voters faces and finger wagging at them condescendingly positioning themselves as "the adults in the room".
The outright "no we won't even try impeachment" is one example. The base is foaming at the mouth to do it.

The unfortunate reality is that politics is a bunch of stupid blustering. We have not done the work to make it otherwise and a lot of us, perhaps even you, would not like what we'd have to do to make it not that.
