Square went to the Playstation because there was a kind of falling out between them and Nintendo, because putting the game on discs would just be cheaper than cartridges, and because Sony was going to allow more mature content than Nintendo.

I mean, using discs for the Switch would have not been the best decision. Even with the little plastic shell "protecting" PSP games, they still would get scratched way easier than normal discs given it's an "on-the-go" format. And even the Vita used cartridges just like the Switch.

Oh, I wonder if it was the PS Classic. Only just found out from another reply that it used the stickless controller. Otherwise, that's crazy it was at a Gamestop. As someone who worked there back in '05 and again in the '10s, they've only carried 1 gen back, aside from at a generational start.

I was actually thinking about questioning how many people understand the only reason the PS exists is because of that Nintendo deal going south. Also, unsure on CD-ROM specifically, but the Gamecube was also disc-based. But it's just those 3, as far as I know. GC, Wii, and Wii U.

Cute. I feel like you always do really great on the facial expressions too.

Still really love Feb and Sept. But all are good.

I mostly grew up on consoles. We had a Window 3.1 so I played DOOM and Terminator/Jurassic Park games which controlled the same, and of course Oregon Trail, but aside from the JP Trespasser game, I don't remember even really playing FPSs on PC until Battlefield 1942 and CoD 1. So I missed all that.

I'm genuinely surprised the 1st controller you saw for the PS1 was 1 without sticks given those were replaced relatively quickly so are somewhat rarer.

You're welcome

This thing just makes me think of a early version of the Steel Battalion controller. :P

I meant that for DOOM on the PC. I played it a ton on our Windows 3.1 back in the '90s and when I eventually played a rerelease on the 360 arcade, I forgot how there was not vertical aim and it confused me so much.

And ya, wasn't Quake one of the 1st mouse aim FPSs while others used the arrows?

I was kind of feeling the same. Like wheels didn't really become a big thing until late PS2 to PS3/360 era. But I googled before sending the last msg and found some saying they were PS1 steering wheels. But who knows. They were probably just way more expensive.

I knew RE1 had a Dualshock specific release. Did not know 2 did as well though. Not sure how good they would be though when the games still used tank controls.

That's pretty cool. Like just buying a cheap steering wheel controller instead of buying a full steering wheel.

lol, FREE CARDS!! :P
December 9, 2025 at 4:48 AM
Yes, it had both. You might be confusing it with the N64 and/or Gamecube controller. The N64 only had 1 L/R buttons with Z as the "trigger" where you hold the analog stick while the Gamecube put Z up with the R button, so the right finger had R and Z while left still only had L.
December 9, 2025 at 4:47 AM
lol, same. I'd often remap racing games back then to use a button over the "trigger" button because of that. :P

Far too relatable. A video can sometimes be better when the info is a lot of specific directions, but the other 95% of the time, just give me the 1 paragraph and give me the info in 20 secs. "SHOW ME THE GAMEFAQS!!"

Got a booster box of this and Cyber Eden for Cyber Monday. Got this box but am still waiting on the Cyber Eden box.

"Man, MadCatz controllers were weird, huh..." :P
December 9, 2025 at 3:06 AM
I had to go look that up and that is bonkers to me they released the PS Classic with an OG style controller. But like you said, it kind of solidifies it. :P
