Here and there
Doctor Odyssey did prove to me that the guy can still create a crunchy, reliably-entertaining TV show, something increasingly rare, so I'm willing to give this a shot on that strength alone

My phone still has a headphone jack, fucking *try* me with "LLMs are an inevitable technology"

yeah ask literally any American parent whether they like Ms Rachel or Israel more and you’d probably end up with like 92-8 margins

Wild twist, but also sortof fitting, that the closest we've gotten in recent years is from the Stargate lineage

I've never encountered more students who say they hate reading. Students who want to be teachers, writers, or both. I wonder if "hate" means "I have trouble reading," but I also talk with so many students who write in a genre but refuse to read in it. They can't see themselves in relation to others.

They aren't even mentioning the one egregious thing about his policies, which was that he didn't follow them himself, because that's the one part they think WASN'T a problem. Fucking bizarro world worldview.

They lost me at it being a plan and from venture capital, but then somehow they dug that hole so, so much deeper

We did so little, far too little, as a society. And moneymen and assholes decided it was Too Much and Never Again.

Plus side though is that, if strictly sticking to no-DRM ebooks, it helps force us to stick to smaller, independent publishers that need our money more than the big guys anyways!

The shelving crisis is getting quite acute in my own place, hah

Swinger parties does seem like the one deviation from the source material that doesn't sound entirely out of place and out of theme for Whoville, it's all about loving your neighbor yaknow

I gotta see that film one of these days (didn't even know there was a lost original cut though, damn)

That's certainly another strong argument against these piracy sites, I must grant, since we have proof in court at this point that big corporations have used them to train LLMs. Even with some authors being retroactively paid a bit for that, it's a loss for our culture and society in too many ways.
November 26, 2025 at 4:17 AM
The LLM aspect of this all is wild and depressing since our society has spent decades creating increasingly strict and hyperspecific legal frameworks for how such authored works can be distributed and used . . . and then it turns out, sadly unsurprisingly, that if money comes around then It's Okay.
November 26, 2025 at 4:14 AM
Very fair, I'd just wanna state that I certainly wasn't trying to beg for their blessing, more trying to affirm a choice they've made that solves a problem that, for people like me, has in the past otherwise necessitated piracy to then actually read a book despite having paid already.

Season 2 was pretty fun!

That was the only Wheel Of Time I've ever imbibed, funny enough. Yes, that includes me not having watched Season *1*, I saw Wheel Of Time on Prime and I was like "ja I'm in the mood for some fantasy slop" and hit Play and it started me at 2x01 and I just rolled with it

Every song is a kind of prayer
Every prayer is a kind of advertising jingle
Every jingle is a kind of epitaph
Song-prayer to the Volcano God.

They say he has an invisible hand
That builds up the wealth of nations
But the hand that I see every day
Takes away
