And there have been a bajillion Metroidvanias at this point, how do you make one that feels fresh? Add lots of slopes and curves and Sonic physics!

Sonic’s gameplay always felt like the natural progression from Mario 3’s use of slopes/momentum. A real evolution in platforming. Where do you go from there? Outside of Sonic CD, the Sonic games have been very straightforward A-to-B platformers, so why not get more ambitious with the game world?

Lots of folks are posting examples of metroidvanias where you swap characters, but the most exciting aspect of my daydream is that it’d have classic Sonic’s momentumy pinbally physics.

It's so weird how it was nailed down back in the SNES/Genesis days, and yet so many modern controllers just can't get it right!

If the Steam Deck didn't exist, and the OG Steam Controller was the only thing to go off of, then yeah, I'd be pretty skeptical too.

I imagine you could just cycle through them with the triggers/maybe use the right stick to swap, like the powers in Superstars/ the powers in a Mega Man game.

I also pine for more A-to-B straightforward platformers, especially in the indie space! But I’m surprised, considering the slew of Metroidvanias out there, I’ve never seen one with Sonic’s sorta momentum physics.

Y’know that part in Chemical Plant where you can time your jump on the ramp to skip the whole water-rising section? Imagine doing cool tricks like that to sequence break.

I’m imagining you could swap on the fly, because nobody likes the DK64 barrel system.
