Queer erasure has been on the agenda since Stonewall. They've never made it a secret.
People weren't listening, and thought it couldn't happen to them. They stayed wrapped up in the false sense of security of not being 'other' enough.

Protest might be the goal as a pathway to enact martial law. While that certainly presents the possibility for revolution, the bourgeois attitude of our country means accepting an openly fascist regime is more likely. Our country is woefully miseducated and complacent, the worst combination.
