Okay. It’s time once again. The threads that form an X on the back of your new coat are called a tacking stitch. You’re meant to remove them so the vent opens properly. Please share this for the benefit of our society. 🙏

Over the last 5 years huge corporations have been pushing prices for necessities to absurd heights. It hurts families. It also hurts small and medium-sized businesses who sell things people are just having to do without. We should all be angry.

We're getting to learn the surprising, and frankly weird lengths Conservative MPs went to to make sure the Liberal government wasn't defeated last night. #cdnpoli

Astute parl-nerds will recall the time 20 years ago when the entire Conservative caucus - all 98 of them, including a first term MP from Nepean—Carleton - abstained to let the minority Liberal government's budget pass. #cdnpoli #parlnerds

The intro to Councillor @shawnmenard.bsky.social's weekly newsletter offers a nice summation of the frustrations a lot of us are feeling right now. Leadership at city hall should be focused on Ottawa's mounting challenges, instead it is creating very expensive new problems. #ottawa #ottcity

This passage by Star reporter Dave Groff describing the recovery efforts and wreckage being pulled ashore in that same edition is chilling. Even the day after the wreck, there was little hope of finding sailors alive. #edmundfitzgerald

November 11, 1975: My father is a photographer for the Sault Star. He gets an early call from his editor saying the storm that felled trees and barns in the city wrecked an ore carrier on Lake Superior. He drives up to Pancake Bay to capture images of wreckage and search efforts #edmundfitzgerald

No notes. North American car-brained planning has completely failed us. So let’s at least be comfortable.

November 10, 1975: Fifty years ago today The Sault Star weather report for the evening predicts "Occasional rain, wind gusts up 50 [miles/hr] possible." In actual fact, winds would reach 76 miles/hr at the airport - anything above 73 is considered hurricane force. #EdmundFitzgerald

Exhibit #377 for the case that the Saturday Globe and Mail is written by a fundamentally different group of people than every other day of the week.

Well that's it. Council has passed the Lansdowne 2.0 plan by a 15 to 10 vote.

At this point Ottawa feels less like a city and more like a taxpayer-funded vending machine for comfortable private interests.

"Trick or treat!"

An article in the November 1, 1917 issue of The Sault Daily Star about Halloween celebrations in the city is considered the first use of the salutation in print. It appeared 10 years earlier than the 1927 example the Oxford English Dictionary cites as its earliest use. #Halloween
