Welllllll, I wouldnt limit it to English speakers... but I pay attention amd I am english speaking as a first language. I am no fan of lumping people together is my point trying to use the same format.

France is France. Francais is the language... which translates to French, not France. And it's Normandie, not Normandy.

Because Turkey is the Americanized spelling. Just like Normandy is the Americanized "Normandie." (France, of course) I don't know why we have to spell things differently. Seems if we started standardizing names across languages it would go a long way to improving understanding.
