some fucker at the North Pole: "Okay, so first, you're gonna want to fly directly east from here,"

When Aang says "No, it's not over," in the Avatar State after the death of The Moon, it's not the pantheon of Avatar voices. It's Aang's and one other, a deep, almost husky masculine one. It was already (at least) heavily implied that he was being a conduit for The Ocean, but that was a nice touch.

Dang, I thought their swift defeat was a throwaway joke, but if the North's infiltration squad hadn't just burst in, they could have overheard Zhao's plan to assassinate the moon with enough time to deliver the message and fortify the area. But, the show DID portray them as not valuing intel 🤷

I did mean to mention in an earlier entry, but I appreciate the idea of there being physical written records to Zuko's voyage like his hunt is a real mission instead of it just being him and his unlucky crew marooned on the ship chasing smoke for three years, especially as only Zuko keeping with it.

Moment of appreciation for Zuko's character arc in season one alone. We witnessed his transformation from angry loud outburst angsty to melancholic quiet brooding angsty, AND he was able to handle genuine affection and vulnerability from Iroh without being too irony-pilled or teenage-ly embarrassed.

I fully believe the sun was the first Firebender, but this was replaced fairly recently (in the 100-Years War) by the idea that it was dragons PURELY as an excuse to do the übermensch hunting BS. See: Jeong-Jeong's lessons, and juxtaposition against Water

The reprise of "Four Seasons" when Sokka volunteers to fight and looks at the tearful Yue, not just because it's a love song, but because it's echoing the "season" of peace coming to an end, a song we last heard RIGHT before we see Zhao amassing forces for that very invasion, that's cinema.
November 20, 2025 at 3:24 AM
The black snow is falling, and on their way to report the coming invasion to the king, Yue stops to friend-breakup with Sokka for political reasons. Girl has never been in real danger before in her conscious life. Tell me the North is peaceful without telling me "the North is peaceful."

Northern Water Tribe members are paler than their Southern counterparts because they get to be indoors more often. Like, more of their work seems indoors, compared to the South, and most of the leisure time we hear about (at any age) in the South is outdoors. Plus, "buildings that don't melt."

Kana passing onto her daughter, then granddaughter, the necklace that represents her resistance to a sexist denial of autonomy, and her willpower to face the world head on BY herself as she creates a new life FOR herself, even if Katara initially thought it was just an heirloom. Understated.

I know they can't curse because it's TV-Y7 or something, but I think it adds to it. Zuko keeping quiet the moment he realizes he's about to be blown up because he's grown into a warrior's decorum. Yue's giddy "Oh. My. GOODNESS!" because she's a polite, refined princess. Aang using old timey slang. 👌

The Tale of Two Lovers being done in that etched-stone style fits both the location *and* harkens back to the historical murals of the Air Temples.

Also, not saying I prefer this, or would prefer the opposite, but it is INCREDIBLY FUNNY that this time we somehow heard EVEN LESS of "Secret Tunnel."

Zuko still being very culturally Fire Nation, but just because that's where his dad and former life are, but because like we see with Original!Mai, he grew up hearing of Fire Nation greatness and that culture being worthy of this supremacy, of "honorable" battle and duty through effective service

Omashu Action Speedrun
• Bystander assaulting Zuko not for being Zuko, but for hitting a child
• The fabric fight
• Return to the delivery system for a staked action sequence
• Is this the only time the cabbage cart was burned down??
• Showcased that the Omashu mail does indeed get delivered on time

I'm glad that Katara got a chance to talk about Kya *outside* of her death, and was encouraged to remember how she was in life. Good for us, the audience, to empathize (without making us stop seeing it as, "Well yeah, she's their mom. I'd feel the same."), and Katara honestly could use the therapy.

Teo being extremely knowledgeable about chemistry, science, and engineering, but downplaying it, is EXTREMELY realistic to myself and other kids who grew up being "impressive" children in STE(A)M. This includes him wanting to do more than just STE(A)M with his life.
November 19, 2025 at 10:42 PM
Teo being able to set up and pack down his glider unassisted is so nice. I love seeing designs that aren't like "Look at the independence and ability you can access if you have someone able-bodied there to help you~!" Like, I get design constraints and the mechanist being slipshod and imperfect, but

I love the idea of Azula going on little sting operations to rat out and destroy pockets of dissent. I bet Original!Azula would do that without even being assigned a mission; she'd just do it for fun. She'd say it was for father and kingdom, but really, she was just bored.

Seeing a Firebender immolate someone on-screen felt like seeing Zaheer assassinating Earth Queen Hou-Ting. Terrifying, thank you. Glad you included the screaming.
November 19, 2025 at 10:18 PM
The Southern Water Tribe being the size of a small town instead of four families max feels less doomed, but still wiped out, and I appreciate Sokka getting an understanding of leadership from being the eldest man remaining. I'm also glad they included him trying to pass on the torch before leaving.
November 19, 2025 at 10:15 PM
While I don't yet (in the episode "Omashu") understand how metalworking was supposed to work in the Southern Water Tribe, I do appreciate the implication that Sokka got a chance to tinker back at home, before his identity got swallowed up be being an ideal warrior protector man. Actually—

Azula's private correspondence with Zhao about Zuko would 100% be something she'd do, even though Original!Azula wouldn't feel threatened; she'd just be being a catty bitch. Zhao, in both universes, would be eating it up because he'd think he was rubbing elbows with the true royal family, good call.

Complete tone shift: Aang's monologue about not listening to his teachers seems like it could have been a transcript of something he said in the original series.
November 19, 2025 at 10:02 PM
Chronologically first ig, having all the Air Nomads gathered at the temples, nevertheless all in one place, makes their short and sweeping genocide a lot more tactically viable, and more tragically realistic. Sure, some escape, but genocide doesn't happen in a day, and this was a quite a head-start.
