I drive an 18-wheeler with a retractable gear that goes long-distance at a relatively fast speed.
The max takeoff weight for that runway was 889, 200 lbs. We weighed 882, 300 lbs.

On the B747-8 we have four GEnx-2B67 engines that each produce up to 67,000 lb.of thrust. Under normal conditions we take off with reduced power to prolong the longevity of the engines. Last night was not the case. This will give you a sense how powerful these engines really are.

It's something we practice in the simulator but rarely do on the line as our runway lengths are normally greater than 10,000 feet.

Last night they opened the second of three runways in Louisville. It is only 8579 feet long. The long one was still closed.

We were close to 700,000 lbs. landing on a runway that was only 7900 feet. That's not much distance to stop a heavy aircraft touching down at 156 knots.

On short runways such as this we utilize full reverse thrust, max autobrake, and spoiler deployment.
