"While reporting on war is essential to expose its human costs and security, environmental coverage is equally important.

Climate change will not pause for a ceasefire, and neglecting it risks overlooking a crisis that affects everyone."

Drought, sand storms and evacuations: how Iran’s climate crisis gets ignored
Tehran is facing its worst water shortages for ten years, but there is little reporting on it outside Iran.

"To describe activism and peaceful protests against the genocidal violence in Gaza as “pro-Palestinian” is disparaging. Opposing the strategic starvation of a trapped population is hardly pro-Palestinian. It is pro-humanity."
Why we need to retire the term ‘pro-Palestinian’
This media shorthand is increasingly used to conflate violence with acts of solidarity and protest against mass murder.

A reminder that the @nytimes.com told New Yorkers to not rank Mamdani at all, & instead endorsed former hedge fund manager Whitney Tilson.

Tilson sits at a whopping .8%.

How much stronger and unifying would the following statement be if the 36 deputies had replaced "Jewish values" with "human values"?

“The inclination to avert our eyes is strong, as what is happening is unbearable, but our Jewish values compel us to stand up and to speak out,” they wrote.

While unsurprising, the study gives us levels of measurement - Using LLMs to write essays decreases the learning value in all ways. Much as if you used machines to life the weights at a gym, it defeats much of the training and strengthening purpose, leading to weaker learning and development.
Found this overview of a study on students' brains and ChatGPT by MIT fascinating. Not all that surprising, but certainly food for thought as to how this may impact the brains of younger generations in the future.

Will be reading the full paper over the next few days.

Imagine being a student who watches peers constantly use AI in an English program.

I’ve no idea if my 3.96 GPA is because I’ve produced exceptional work or if I’m actually horrible but they’re like, “HUMAN WORK: A!” 😭😅

Btw, if you can see the grotesque injustice that is the National Guard violently occupying LA for even 1 day against the will of Los Angelenos, then you can certainly see the grotesque injustice that is the Israeli military violently occupying Palestine for 75 years against the will of Palestinians.
