1908 - Gerhard Lang, a printer from Munich who is often credited with creating the first printed Advent calendar.
My art post day, a little late as it should have been on the 1st December is the advent calendar, which is now part of our Christmas tradition.

"President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that Ukraine would not budge from its longstanding opposition to handing over land to Russia". Trump can bully, Putin can demand but Zelenskyy and Europe stand firm, there is no deal.

The Daily Mail making up stuff as usual. The new lie restaurant portions, normal portions are still the first option for everyone, but Labour suggest if we wish to eat smaller portions they be offered. I often opt to eat less or don't finish my meal, I would rather pay less in the first place.

Happy Sunday and waking up after a couple of days of parties, so it's a quiet day for me with lots of coffee. Wishing everyone a relaxing and peaceful day.

A wonderful way to turn a bundt cake into a cake reflecting the Christmas season. #receipetorecommend

Well that turned out to be the fiasco we expected and why does the peace prize look so appropriate for Trump, gaudy and ugly.

John Constable - A winterlandscape with figures on the path
In the fall of 1832, Constable painted this remarkable copy of a winter landscape by Jacob van Ruisdael, he added subtle differences to distinguish it, including adding a small dog in the lower left corner.

I'm about to be controversial, whilst I believe in the jury system, having been a part of it with other family members, I see problems with it and I do believe changes are required. Fraud trials in particular are usually long and complex for jurors, who often don't follow the evidence.

My art post today reflects my recipe post today, this is not an advert for any particular brand of shortbread but a celebration of the beautiful, artistic tins that shortbread is presented in.
December 2, 2025 at 4:24 PM
My one weakness at Christmas is shortbread, and although I make my own as well, I love the traditional festive tins.

Suzie MacKenzie, a Scottish printmaker who works mainly in collagraph
She describes the landscape of the north-eastern Highlands of Scotland in lyrical and enigmatic terms, this piece for me represents Scotland both on occasion bleak but always beautiful

The Christmas festivities are a time to celebrate with family and friends, not only those still with us but to remember those that are no longer here.
December 1, 2025 at 4:14 PM

Lindisfarne Gospels
This post includes my favourite selection, art, history and the written word. An inscription relays information about the book’s formation, it informs us that Eadfrith, a bishop of Lindisfarne in 698 who died in 721, created the manuscript to honor God and St. Cuthbert.

The con that is Reform. The voters voted for Pidcock who won the Hunstanton seat, one of them to work for them, it was another Reform lie. The truth he ran an international offshore oil service company before retiring, like Farage wealthy establishment looking after their own interests.

Badenoch claims 'benefit handouts are unchristian', I don't remember anywhere in the bible where Jesus teaches us to horde our treasures and exploit the poor, but maybe she reads a different bible.

Art comes in all shape and sizes and at this time of year decorative Christmas baubles are very artistic, with their range of colours and styles.
