Fantastic to have MPs like @lukemurphy.bsky.social pour their passion and ideas into Send reform 👏🏽
We were delighted to welcome @lukemurphy.bsky.social to our Basingstoke nursery today to launch his report about fixing the SEND crisis.

Really pleased to see the Government recognise the need for a big Send training drive for schools.
We welcome the Government's announcement to invest £200 million in SEND training. This is a positive step towards a truly inclusive education system - giving every child the opportunity to play, learn, grow, and thrive. (1/5)

Really welcome govt investment in more school places so that disabled kids can go to their local school. 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
New funding that will deliver 50,000 specialist places so that all kinds of kids with all kinds of disabilities can attend their local school is a positive step forward, but buildings alone won't deliver inclusion. (1/4)

Huge thanks @yvettecooper-mp.bsky.social for truly listening to parents of children with Send today. The Government has a big opportunity to make Send support better and you have shown that families' experiences are the launch pad for those solutions.
Today, parents from our Wakefield Awareness Support Project and other Kids' services gave a powerful testimony to @yvettecooper-mp.bsky.social, speaking openly about the trauma and failure to listen and understand them and their children. Some spoke of having “no fight left in me.”

We support the Government's pause, as it's essential they get SEND reforms right. The new year must bring comprehensive, compelling proposals that reflect the urgent need for change.
Breaking: The schools white paper will be delayed until 'early in the new year', government has announced today, as ministers take more time to draw up controversial SEND reforms

Important report from the @suttontrust.bsky.social highlights the significant financial impact that having a child with SEND can have on families - a crucial factor that must be considered by the Government when shaping opportunities and outcomes for every child.
🚨 NEW: Children from low-income homes are more likely to have special educational needs and are also less likely to get the support they need, we have found.

Our new research reveals massive socio-economic inequalities in accessing support from a SEND system in crisis 🧵⤵️

Beautifully told stories about the harsh reality of 'the fight' by families and a lovely example from a head of a school where teachers step up as Send champions to help children 'flourish' - 'it's about setting them up for life after school'
Last night's impactful Panorama documentary with Kellie Bright highlighted what families of children with SEND know all too well - the system is underfunded, and too many children are being left without the support they need.

"We do need the government to embrace systemic reforms. We believe the reformed system must include EHCPs for those children who will continue to need them."

Why are parents worried about Labour's possible changes to education for children with special needs?
As Sky News finds less than half of requests to local authorities are completed on time, parents say what's needed is better enforcement, rather than the scrapping of EHCPs
